I am seeking to pay my rent this month, due on the 28th. Since last October, when my company closed unexpectedly on us, and they failed to pay our last paychecks, the Mrs. and I have been through the wringer.
First, our landlord of over 12 years decided since we could no longer afford the home we were in, told us they would sell the property and wanted us out before the end of the year. Since this was the start of the holiday season, finding a new home while packing became a nightmare - an accident driving in the snow, dealing with shifty unscrupulous potential landlords who advertised one thing and offered another, then finding that we were forced to scrap to a dumpster the better part of our belongings to save space (which in some cases was a blessing in disguise), we somehow found an apartment just before Christmas. Three days after Christmas, the Mrs. (who has a very minimal job due to her acute bipolar disorder) broke her arm at her work and was laid up for a month and a half (fortunately she has a boss from heaven, who not only paid for all medical expenses, but continued to pay her wages as well). Then, as an added blow, we lost her car to the bank. Yay.
So we managed to make it through to April with my unemployment compensation and her meager income. That is until my bi-weekly trip to the UC board on April 11th. There I was told that I had exhausted my initial UC (which I had been told was good for a year, not 6 months), that I could (and will, according to the state reps I’ve talked to) reapply, but that until the Senate passed the new extension (which had JUST run out April 2nd) I would not be able to do so until they did (which they did on the 14th), and just for kickers, once they DID sign it, I could get back on it, but not until at least May 2nd. And just to add insult to injury, we won our case in bankruptcy court against my former employers, and will be getting my back pay… but not until mid to late MAY. And to add salt to the wounds, I was told by a few of those ‘advance pay for lawsuit’ companies that because I am being paid directly from the courts, I can not use them. Typical…
My rent is due on April 28th. My current landlord is quite strict about that.
I am seeking only $1000 ($975 to be exact, but rounding it up makes it easier for everyone involved). It would be paid back within a month.
I don’t want to upset my new landlord. I am diligently seeking employment, but I need a solid base to work from, and I don’t think the Mrs. would take kindly to being forced to move yet again in less than a year. Please folks, any short-term help would be appreciated!
